Business Strategy

Experience has taught us that long-term success requires a balanced and flexible strategy that can be adapted to changes in the marketplace. Our strategy is based upon a mix of exploratory and development drilling and producing property acquisitions, with a continual rebalancing of the mix of drilling and acquisitions in response to changing industry conditions and strategic opportunities.

To implement this strategy, we concentrate our operations within specific geographic areas where we operate significant producing properties and where we also have the potential for expansion. With this approach, we capitalize on economies of scale, minimize costs, and better utilize our technical and operational expertise.

As the operator of the wells in which we have significant economic interests, we design and manage the drilling of wells and supervise the daily operation and maintenance of producing wells. We do not own drilling rigs or other oil field services equipment used for drilling or maintaining the wells we operate. Independent contractors supervised by us provide this equipment and personnel. We employ drilling, production, and reservoir engineers, geologists, geophysicists, and other specialists who work to improve production rates, increase reserves, and lower the costs of operating our oil and natural gas properties. At all times we strive to be at the forefront in applying the most appropriate technologies (and frequently the latest technologies) both in planning and in executing our drilling and production operations.

We typically sell our oil and natural gas production at market prices near the wellhead or at a central point after gathering and/or processing. We usually sell our natural gas in the spot market on a monthly basis, while we sell our oil at prevailing market prices. We do not refine any oil we produce.

In order to ensure the company's on-going production, we seek to maintain a balanced reserves base with respect to several factors, such as: oil vs. natural gas, developed vs. undeveloped properties, and long-lived vs. short-lived reserves lives. Our current operations are generally focused in four core areas that we identify as South Texas, Southeast Louisiana, South Louisiana, and Central Louisiana/East Texas (see map).
