Laurent (Larry) Baillargeon was appointed vice president & general counsel of Swift Energy Company on February 18, 2010. He had served as Swift's general counsel since December 2004 and in earlier positions was the company’s general counsel for exploration and production (June 2003 to December 2004) and associate general counsel (May 2000 to June 2003).

Mr. Baillargeon 30 years of legal experience in the oil and gas business, during which he has negotiated and prepared legal documents relating to various types of commercial transactions, including corporate acquisitions, mergers, and divestitures. At Swift Energy, he continues in these activities, as well as many others related to the company’s business.

Prior to joining Swift Energy, he was vice president—corporate land and general counsel of Petrocorp, Inc., and senior vice president and general counsel of Yankee Oil and Gas, Inc. He also held various legal positions with Venus Oil Company, Tenneco Oil Company, and Shell Oil Company and had an extensive private oil and gas practice in San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Baillargeon received a bachelor’s degree from Assumption College in Massachusetts, a masters of business administration from Regis University in Colorado, and a juris doctorate from South Texas College of Law.

Mr. Baillargeon is a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association (ACC) the American Bar Association (ABA), The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional), the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), and the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals. He is licensed by the Supreme Court of the United States and is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and The College of the State Bar of Texas, to which he was elected as a fellow in 2003. He is also a member of the State Bar of Massachusetts and the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA).
