James P. Mitchell
Senior Vice President—Commercial Transactions and Land
James P. Mitchell was named Swift Energy’s senior vice president for
commercial transactions and land on February 18, 2003, after having served as
Swift’s vice president for land and property transactions since December
2001. Earlier he was vice president—land (1996-2001), manager of land
(1992-1996), director of land acquisitions and joint venture negotiations
(1990-1992), and coordinator of land acquisitions (1987-1990). He has wide
experience in land management, acquisition, administration, and divestment,
with an emphasis in negotiations and contracts. At Swift, he manages the
business and administrative activities of the Land Department with a staff of
petroleum landmen and other land professionals.
In late 2000, Mr. Mitchell was also named to the Board of Directors of Swift Energy New
Zealand Limited and served as the company’s acting chief operating officer
from December 2001 until February 2002. He also became managing director of
Swift Energy International, Inc., in December 2001.
Prior to joining Swift Energy, Mr. Mitchell was administrative land
manager and director of land acquisitions for Global Natural Resources Corporation
(19841987); supervisor of land acquisitions for Damson Oil Corporation
(19801984); and staff landman for various independent oil and gas companies
(19771980).
Mr. Mitchell graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1976 with a
bachelor’s degree in history and business law. He has completed graduate
management programs at Columbia University Graduate School of Business,
Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Administration at Rice University, Edwin
L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, and the Harvard
Program for negotiators. In 2005, he completed a program on international
project management at the Templeton Graduate Business College of Oxford
University.
