SWIFT ENERGY ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS


HOUSTON, February 21, 2002 - Swift Energy Company (NYSE, PCX: SFY) announced today that Alan Cunningham has been appointed as President and Chief Operating Officer of Swift Energy New Zealand Limited (SENZ) and that Gerald B. Long has been promoted to Vice President, Production Operations of Swift Energy Company.

Alan Cunningham has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, most recently in the area of international operations involving business development, exploration and production and planning in the Austral-Asian area. Mr. Cunningham will be responsible for the Company’s day-to-day operations in New Zealand. He previously worked in similar capacities for Entegrity Ventures International, Union Texas Petroleum and Mobil Oil Corporation. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Texas and a Juris Doctor degree from the South Texas College of Law.

Gerald Long has been with the Company since April 2001 as Director of Production Operations. In his new role, Mr. Long will have responsibility for managing the Production Operations Department, including the enhancement of the Company’s domestic production. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a Juris Doctor degree from University of Houston.
