SWIFT ENERGY COMPANY NEWSSWIFT ENERGY ANNOUNCES THE RETIREMENT OF EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT VIRGIL N. SWIFTHOUSTON, June 14, 2000 - Swift Energy Company announced today that effective June 30, 2000, Executive Vice President Virgil N. Swift will retire from his day-to-day responsibilities with the Company. He will continue to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board and will provide consulting services focusing on the development of the Company's Rimu discovery in New Zealand. He will also continue to serve as Chairman and CEO of Swift Energy International. Mr. Swift joined his brother A. Earl Swift during the Company's early formative years after taking early retirement from Gulf Oil Corporation in 1981. From 1982-1991, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company, and since 1991 he has served as Executive Vice President--Business Development. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1981. Commenting on his impending retirement, Virgil Swift 71, stated, "I have been in the oil and gas industry for 48 years, and I am pleased with the contributions I have made to the growth of Swift Energy over the last 19 years. Although I will continue to serve Swift Energy in a number of roles, I believe it is time to leave the Company's day-to-day affairs to others."
